Music and the Olympics: Lesson Plan for Elementary Music
With the Winter Olympics only taking place every 4 years, you’ll want to take advantage of the hype. This is a perfect opportunity to discuss with students about how music is important in the ‘real world.’

To help you out, we’ve created a couple resources! The first one is free – an infographic with just the basics. If you’re looking for a 5 minute overview, this will give you a starting point. It can also be used with younger grades to just call their attention to the music of the Olympic Games.

Looking for a more detailed presentation that includes ‘all the things’ as well as links to great examples of the music of the Olympics? We’ve made this no-prep lesson for you and it’s only $4 right now! It can be as quick as 20 minutes if you keep the video links short or can be taught over 2 days (40+ minutes) with longer musical excerpts and student discussion.

Topics included are:
— Why Music is Part of the Olympics
— The Olympic Anthem
— Bugler’s Dream
— Music in the Opening Ceremony
— Music during the Parade of Nations
— Music at Medal Ceremonies
— National Anthems
— Olympic Theme Songs
— What You Can Learn from Olympic Music
— Student Discussion Questions
