100th Day of School Activity for Music Class

A 100th Day of School Activity for your Music Class

Looking for a 100th day of school activity for your music class that reinforces a musical objective? Chicka Chicka 1 2 3 is an great fit because it is highly rhythmic and easy for students to chant together. The repeated line, “Chicka Chicka 1 2 3, will there be a place for me?” will quickly be picked up by students. They will soon join in with the pattern and can join in every time it is repeated. This makes the book feel like a group performance instead of just a story.

Different Ages:
Pre-K – read the book and have students join in the repeated phrase.
Kinder – read the book and have students “pat the beat” as they join in the repeated phrase.
1st & 2nd Grade – read the book and have students “tap the rhythm” of the repeated phrase. To make it more difficult, have half the students “pat the beat” and half the students “tap the beat”. You can also show them the image below and have them play the rhythm as written while reciting the phrase.

Because the book counts up to 100, it fits perfectly with 100th Day of School activities!

Chicka Chicka 1 2 3 is ideal for well for PreK through second grade as a fun and effective choice for celebrating the 100th Day in music class.
