2 Spring Music Lesson Plan Activities

5 Little Peas in a Pea Pod Pressed. I start teaching this rhyme early in the year. I use THIS packet. First, I just say the rhyme with the motions. Then a few lessons later, I use the pictures version. Then I add the words/pictures version. And, finally – the magic! I can use the ‘puzzle’ version at centers! It’s so fun to see the kids work together to add the photos to the words while saying the rhyme. This is a challenge for Kinder, but they enjoy it. By the time they’re in 1st grade, they’re already familiar, so it’s a perfect independent center.

Then, in March or April, I add this book for a spring/garden themed lesson!

Up, Down & Around” by Katherine Ayres, illustrated by and Guy Parker-Rees is a great spring-themed picture book for vocal exploration. Show the students how to make their voices follow the dotted lines in the illustrations. It pairs wonderfully with “5 Little Peas” or can be a great addition to a sub lesson IF the sub understands how to evoke the vocal exploration.

Looking for a fun song to practice vocal exploration? Try “I Had a Rooster.” Here’s a free set of slides to go with the song! This could also pair with the spring theme as far as farm animals.
