“Ice Skating” in Elementary Music Class
Your Pre-K, Kindergarten and 1st graders will LOVE THIS!
All you need for this is a stack of cheap paper plates and access to YouTube. Depending on the size of your room, you can divide the kids into 2 groups so there is plenty of room for skating.
Have students spread out around the open room. Give each child 2 paper plates – one for each foot. Push play on the Music for Kiddos (Stephanie Leavell) Skating song and it tells the kids what to do. They will very quickly pick up on the fun of freezing during the “…wait”!
This is excellent for sound/no sound, controlling their bodies with gross motor skills, and it’s just a beautiful song! This is also an ideal music game for for January because you can review class expectations for moving around the classroom after a long winter break.

Happy teaching!
